Wizzy Digital is dedicated to expanding the reach of the web

What is Wizzy?
Wizzy is a unique method by which schools can access the Internet, with or without a telephone, utilizing simple technology and locally available used computer equipment.
It is of such capability and low cost that Internet can now be considered by schools around the world that are currently denied access because equipment is too expensive, telephone dialup costs are too high, or there simply isn't a telephone line available.

Who is it for?
Wizzy is for schools. Lots of schools around the world either can't get Internet or can't afford Internet. Communication is at the heart of education, and email and Web provide a powerful environment of communications in which education can thrive. Unfortunately, schools, which could benefit by it the most and can afford it the least, easily find themselves isolated because they have limited finances or they are geographically remote.

Why is it relevant?
In most developing countries the least expensive computer equipment and the least expensive Internet access is still far too expensive for many schools to afford.
In addition, future plans to expand existing data communications networks beyond their current boundaries involve increasingly higher user costs,  intensifying rather than alleviating the inequity between those who can afford it and those who cannot.
Until there comes a dramatic drop worldwide in the cost of computers and connectivity to the web, large percentages of children in developing countries will be excluded from this potent, powerful, and fundamental resource.

Support Wizzy. There are a number of ways you can support Wizzy.Get Involved. Step 1. A courier collects outgoing email and requests for websites from remote Wizzy Internet School Labs and delivers them to a Wizzy Internet School Lab with a phone line. Step 2. During the day that school's and all the other school's data is stored on that school's WIZZY server.Step 3. At night, when phone rates are low, the WIZZY server uploads the day's outgoing data to the worldwide web, downloading the websites and email responses, hanging up by morning before the phone rates increases.Step 4. When the students arrive, the emails and websites are waiting to be viewed by the students and delivered by courier to the other schools. Transporting data on simple USB memory sticks makes all this possible.
